Our first session in the studio, learning about safety procedures and lights and accessories. I’ve never actually done a studio shoot before. Excited! Too bad most of Unitec’s camera equipment are for Nikon.
Now for a concept… and willing models.

First time sharing our “dreamography” mind maps in Studio Practice. Each student was tasked to research on other photographers that inspire or relate to his or her dream theme, as a starting point for the semester’s brief. I was particularly interested in Gregory Crewdson’s concepts and Josef Koudelka’s style.
For my theme, I chose the zombie apocalypse (not as silly as you might think) and what it means to be human in the face of inhumanity, literally and most especially figuratively. What would you do to stay human, to live? The subconscious is revealed through dreams, and it is in the dream world that we may discover what truly matters to us in a particular point of our lives. And when such thoughts manifest in a post-apocalyptic dream world, there is a voice that speaks of the collective yet subjective human experience through the layers of meaning. What is the nature of the zombie plague? What makes them different from us? Is there a cure? At school, at work, or at home, the virus spreads.
… Yeah, it’s very much a work in progress. I’ll take a photo of my mind map one of these days and upload my progress on the dreamography brief.

Yummy cheese balls and a cheese, meat, and tomato pizza, courtesy of the German Dan, enjoyed by Sid, Effie, Jeff, Tatev, and me. That’s Effie punching the next batch of dough to death.
And on the other side of the creek, Tom the Englishman cooked Yorkshire Pudding. There was also a steak party going on somewhere in the residential village.
Apparently, every Sunday is special for the dormers!

Western Springs Park was divided into “islands” for the day, each featuring a Pacific Island, such as Tahiti, Fiji, and Samoa. Artistic displays and performances and characteristic food and drinks immersed festival goers in the pacific vibe, transforming the park into a diverse cultural experience.
